Olga Lydia McNamara Martinez, age 85, a resident of Garland, Texas, was a woman of deep faith in Jesus Christ. Her earthly life came to a close on April 23, 2026, in Richardson, Texas.
Olga Lydia was born on June 20, 1940, in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, into a family grounded in grace and faith. Her parents were Augustin Martinez Aguilar and Beatriz McNamara de Martinez. Theirs was a most remarkable family that claims a heritage reaching from the Emerald Isle to Seville in Southwestern Spain.
Olga Lydia was raised in the Christian faith and came early to embrace as her own a confidence in Christ as her Savior – a confidence rooted in the Bible and the convictions of the Presbyterian tradition. It has been said of her family that “theirs was a royal family” through their faith in Jesus.
Olga Lydia graduated with honors from collegiate studies in Wichita Falls, Texas. She studied at Southern Methodist University School of Law, and interned for Senator John Tower in Washington DC. She went on to spend many years serving and blessing others as a kindergarten teacher. Later, she was the school librarian at Sunset High School in Dallas, where she delighted in inspiring others to love the written word.
Olga Lydia loved animals of all kinds, having grown up with a variety of pets, especially a well-loved cat. Olga enjoyed retelling stories from her growing up years, including one involving a bear that came into the house. Olga Lydia treasured the simple and central message of the gospel: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Olga Lydia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, two devoted brothers, and two devoted sisters.
Olga Lydia’s family - her many nieces and nephews - treasure her deeply and will remember her with gratitude and faith.
Her final resting place will be Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
