It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Juana Mata Ortez, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Juana passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, at her home in Garland, Texas, surrounded by her loving family.
Juana was born on December 3, 1955, in Conchagua, La Unión, El Salvador, one of seven siblings in a close-knit family.
Later in life, she made Texas her home, bringing with her cherished traditions from her homeland—especially making homemade corn tortillas. This simple act became a meaningful way she showed her love and stayed connected to her roots.
Her favorite color, fuchsia, reflected her bright spirit and love for life. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Juana is survived by her six children: sons Rene and Rafael, and daughters Sonia, Tomasa, Lorena, and Juanita. She is also survived by her brothers Chungo, Joaquin, and her twin brother Chepe, along with her sisters Tona, Carmen, and Chavela.
She leaves behind 19 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who will always cherish her love and warmth.
Juana Mata Ortez leaves this world surrounded by the love of the family she built. She will forever remain in our hearts.
Her final resting place will be Cementerio Hacienda San Ramon in El Llano Los Patos, Conchagua, La Unión, El Salvador.
May she rest in peace.
